Aerial Dance

What is Aerial Dance?

Aerial Dance originates from high-flying circus arts that require apparatus such as trapeze, aerial fabric, rope and harness, bungee cord and Spanish rope. The difference between the circus and dance is that dance choreographers incorporate the apparatus and its capabilities of flying the human body into themes and concepts rather than solely performing the ‘tricks’ as in circus aerialists.

General Information and Technical Rider

Caroline Calouche & Co. currently works in rope and harness, fabric and bungee cord to create eye-catching aerial dance works combined with contemporary dance. When booking CC&Co. for an aerial dance performance, the space has a great influence on the work especially in rope and harness due to the natural physics of each hang-point and surrounding structures such as buildings, columns and balconies. As the choreographer, Caroline Calouche pays close attention to the performance space and the audience to create unique aerial dance works for each venue.

CC&Co. will always try to give a presenter the most for their dollar. There is not a set fee for a performance due to the variation in rigging and choreography. Below are initial questions that every presenter will have to answer before performance fees can be determined:

1) Where specifically are you wanting the performance and are there exposed beams or railings for rigging?
See Aerial Technical Rider for more details.
2) Who is the audience? (ex. General public, children, senior citizens, etc.)
3) Is there a theme to your event?
4) How long of a performance are you wanting? For health concerns of the aerial dancers, there are limits to time with all aerial apparatus and this does depend on the performance venue for rope and harness.

Approximate Maximum Time for Solos
Fabric – 8 mins.
Bungee Cord – 6 mins.
Rope and Harness w/o Wall – 6 to 10 mins
Rope and Harness w/ Wall – 10 to 12 mins.
